I am a big sports fan. I love football (Go Ravens!) and I am a newer hockey fan (Let’s Go Caps!). We just had the Super Bowl, and yes, Tom Brady won it again at the age of 43, nevertheless.
Those who know me well know that when I am enjoying my downtime, I am still thinking about business. This year’s NFL payoff’s and Super Bowl started to make me think about how we cheer on our local sports teams, whether it is baseball, football, basketball, or hockey, whatever it is. We cheer them on to the point where you would think that we own the team! We are upset when they fail, and we are so happy when they win. We are rooting for them all the way through to that last quarter, that last period, or whatever that minute of play is for that sport.
What about if we rooted for ourselves like that? What if we rooted for our business partners like that? What would the result be if every day or even every week, we cheered ourselves on just like we do for our favorite local sports teams? What if we are our own cheerleader? And then, you can also be someone else’s cheerleader as well.
It is so easy for us to be the best fan in the world for our special team, but we need to do that for ourselves and our business! And we DO own that team- our business.
We need to be our own best fan for our business and for our partners’ businesses as well. Every time you are rooting for “your team”, think about if you have done the same for yourself.
