It is four o’clock on a Monday, and I’ve had a great day on Zoom. I want to tell you about it because what’s starting to frustrate me a bit, is that I’m hearing people repeatedly say, “I am just zoomed out. “I can’t do it anymore. I’m tired of Zoom.” “I want to see people in person.”
We all do, but you are not tired of Zoom. I KNOW that you are still looking for connections to grow your business. You are still looking for new clients, new customers, and right now Zoom or whatever platform that you’re using for video conferencing, that’s where we are. That’s where we’re meeting. So change your mindset.
I attended on a virtual speed networking event recently. It was two hours long, and we jumped from table to table on que throughout that time. I connected with multiple people that I did not know, including people from all over the United States and even Scotland, which was exciting.
Since the event, I have connected with my new “friends” on LinkedIn and we have scheduled one-on-one Zoom calls. I am talking about four relevant business professionals that I think might have some synergies with my business. Not a bad day on ZOOM at all!
Was that wasted time? What if I had said, “I’m just tired of Zoom. I’m not going to this networking event today.” I would’ve missed out on all those new connections, which could mean a difference in my business this year. You just do not know.
Change your mindset about video conferencing and video meetings. You are not tired of it because I know that you’re not tired of finding new business. Just say to yourself,” I’m going to use the tools that are available to me at this time to expand my circle of influence and perhaps find a few new referral partners or clients.” Just like you look forward to any other networking event, look forward to “ZOOMING” events.
ZOOM works, but you do need to work it too. When you go to these virtual events, you need to do follow up. You need to check in with them. You need to connect with them on other platforms. You need to schedule one-on-one Zoom meetings to see if there are any synergies.
You still have some work to do after these meeting, it’s not magic. Your challenge is to change your mindset about ZOOM networking. Change that message that you’re telling yourself and say, “I can’t wait to get on Zoom so that I can meet some new people.”
